At the conclusion of our tour I had the chance to speak briefly with Pat to thank her for her time and to offer my condolences for her loss. I was struck by how gracious she was and by what seemed like her determination to take a tragic and deeply personal situation and try to take something positive away from it by conducting these tours and in doing so, keeping the memory of her son alive. I remember she thanked me for coming and for my kind words and I think we even hugged. Before we parted company she offered me a prayer card with Tommy's picture and the Fireman's prayer on the back. It was a gift I cherish to this day.
